Birkett, Kime win Jeep Msinsi Multisport Series
Sunday 5th October 2008

Andrew Birkett and Robyn Kime are the freshly crowned champions of the 2008 Jeep Msinsi Multisport Series. The final event took place at Albert Falls Dam on Sunday 5th October in cool yet perfect racing conditions.
Young Birkett (17) took his second successive win in fine style as he paddled home to a strong finish just forty seconds ahead of team mate and training partner Lance Kime – both of whom had returned from the Fish River Canoe Marathon the day before in time to secure their series positions. Leader off the 20km mountain bike leg, Matthew Goetsch, showed a successful transition to multisport as he placed third ahead of Jean-Paul van der Linde with Lance Chapman taking fifth.
Cape Town’s Jeannie Bomford proved to be in a league of her own, entering the bike-paddle transition in second place overall and finishing a remarkable fourth overall to claim the honours in the women’s race. Having competed in the Fish River Canoe Marathon the previous day, Robyn Kime raced well to place second while veteran Nanette Cocksedge moved into third place on the paddle leg.
Darren Goddard continued to lead the Multicross event, taking a solid win ahead of Sean Jones and junior Adam Grant. Shale Exelby was the first women home.
The Starr siblings were dominant forces in the Multisport Short Course with Murray Starr taking the win ahead of Justin Hellens and Jenna Starr leading home the women’s race.
While the weather gods may have kept some multisporters undercovers, over three hundred athletes took part in the event while over 1600 athletes have enjoyed the successful four-part multisport series over the past four months.
