Hugo, Kime continue to lead Multisport Series
Sunday 17th August 2008

Dan Hugo and Robyn Kime continued to dominate the Jeep Msinsi Multisport Series with the second event taking place at Shongweni Dam.

Hugo’s time of one hour, forty-three minutes and 6 seconds gave him nearly a four minute cushion over second placed junior Andrew Birkett (1h46.58) and fellow junior Lance Kime in third (1h48.34). Craig Carter-Brown and Nick Floros completed the top five men home in the full distance multisport event over a 5km trail run, 20km mountain bike and 5km paddle.

Su Don-Wauchope (nee Erskine) was back in racing form as she led the women’s race off the trail run. A fall during the cycle leg set her back but it was during the paddling leg that young Kime seized control and went on to win in a time of two hours, three minutes and 27 seconds followed by Don-Wauchope (2h04.34) and Landy Puddu taking third place (2h08.51).

Siblings Murray and Jenna Starr set the pace in the short course multisport (2.5km trail run, 10km mountain bike, 2.5km paddle) but U12 athletes Chad Hoskens and Bianca Haw were not far off the pace, placing in respective second place overall and while taking firsts in the competitive U12 category.

The increasingly popular Multicross event (5km trail run, 20km mountain bike, 2.5km trail run) also boiled down to a Sibling victory with Roan Exelby winning the men’s race and Shale Exelby winning the women’s race.

Cool and threatening conditions at Shongweni Dam did little to deter the spirit of multisport with over four hundred and fifty athletes enjoying the day. Full results available on www.maxcluer.com
